Original calf, lower compartment of back very slightly cracked. 5 parts in one vol. With engraved title & front. & 135 engraved plates. These plates are really remarkable specimens of German baroque art at its best. The upper part of each plate contains a biblical scene with verses beneath, the lower part an emblematic engraving, surrounded by a rich decorative border. The interior scenes are clearly inspired by the architecture of Bernini, Bibiena & other masters of the rococo. Bound at the end is another series of 30 similar plates by the same artist.
