As a food of great nutriment, and possessing many healthful properties, it is extremely useful and much sought after for children as well as for those of older growth. Its gentle laxative effect makes it an important article of children’s diet, and a pleasant substitute for fruit, while it has the additional merit over jam or other similar foods that there is no possibility, through accident or otherwise, of its becoming conteminated with impure or over-ripe fruit.
