About this work

Description

Sir Edward Kelly was an assistant to Dr John Dee (1527-1608). Both travelled to Prague where Kelly was imprisoned twice by Emperor Rudolph II; first in 1589 and later in 1595, when he died trying to escape. Some sources say he was imprisoned in a place called Most, while the present print shows Burg Pürglitz, which is the German name for the Czech Hrad Křivoklát
