Father Rhodes, 1591-1660, joined the Jesuits when he was 22, and in 1618 went to Macao. He met with great success in Indo-China, but in Cochin- China, where he was sent later, he was imprisoned and banished. He returned to Rome by way of Persia and Armenia.
