That information is likewife fub- joined when the hTue was fatal, and when that infpection was allowed. To fome, a minute recital of facts may appear tedious. But then they ought to confider, that this was the firft, and is frill the moft certain method of improving me- dicine ; and that many of the conclusions are new, and contrary to the common o- pinions ; on which account they ought not to be received on my word alone, but be fubjected to the judgment of every per- fon. The pleafure arifmg from truth and conviction muft, at leaft, attend them. By the following experiments, the ef- fects of remedies have rather been re- trenched than extended, and the powers of many, in high repute, are rendered fomewhat doubtful. To compenfate that lofs, we have endeavoured to eftabliih, in others, fome new properties, which we hope future trials will confirm.
