Keep it at about 80° F. until fermentation is complete, express, filter, and evaporate the residuum to gxij, add to it givjproof spirit, mix and filter; 4 drops are considered equivalent to ^ grain of ex- tract of opium, or nearly 1 grain of crude opium. Remove bj bard scraping by means •of a bone knife the pepsiu from the mucous^membrane of a previously washed, freshly killed, pig's or ox's stomach, and mix 5x of it with 5v by wt. of glycerine diluted with 3v of water; put into a large flask and shake up vigorously with 3X111SS by wt. of white wine and 3ss (by wt.) of hv- drochloTic acid. Macerate for 3 days at 68° r., frequentlv shaking, and filter. Phaemac. Jouen. Bullock's pepsin gr. cclvj, hydrochloric acid 5j, sherry gxvj. Mix ViNUH Pebsimmonis. Crushed persimmons (green fruit of the Biospyros Virginiana) ftj, port wiuc Oiss; place it daily in the sun for 14 days, strain, and filter. Dose, f^lii to t5iv; astringent. •' ViNUM PiMPiNELLiE.
