Smoked for the relief of asthma, but often without benefit. Henbane and belladonna are also used in this form. CiGAKE2E Tabaci. Tobacco leaves are formed into cigars for smoking. May be used in moderation by persons of excitable constitution ; too much indulged in, they produce nervousness and debility. ClNCHONiA. Cinclionia is prepared from the disulphate (or sulphate) in the same manner as quinia. The acetate, arseuiatc, hydrochlorate, nitrate, and other salts of cin- clionia are obtained in the same way as those of quinia. CinchonIjE Suh'KAS. U. S. Take of the mother-water re- maining after the crystallization of sulphate of quinine, in the process for preparing that salt, a convenient quan- tity; solution of soda, alcohol, diluted sulphuric acid, animal charcoal iu fine powder, of each q. s. To the mother-water add gradually with constant stirring, sol. of soda, until the liquid becomes alkaline; collect on a filter the pp. formed, wash it with water and dry it. Then wash it with successive small portions of alcohol to remove other alkaloids. Mix the residue witli eight times its wt. of water, and having heated the mixture, add gradually diluted sulphuric acid until it is neutralized and becomes clear. Then boil the liquid with animal char- coal, filter it while hot, and set aside to crystallize. Lastly, drain the crystals and dry them on bibulous paper. By evaporating the mother.liquid more crystals may be formed. Uses and doses, as disulphate (or sulphate) of quinia. CiNGULTJM ANTiniiEUMATicuM. Maejoelin. Camphor 5ss, benzoin 5], cuphorbium 3j, chloride of ammonium 5!]. Powder them finely and sprinkle on wadding, which is to be slightly quilted between two folds of fianncl, to form a belt, to be applied over the seat of rheumatic pains. CiNGULUjr Mercueiale.
