![Three samples of chewing gum contained drugs in the form of acetylsalicylic acid and phenolphthalein. This method of administering drugs is undoubtedly dangerous. A sample of soap, sold at a fabulous price, and described as flesh reducing, was found to be ordinary toilet soap adulterated with talc. A liquid preparation for reducing adipose tissue consisted of alcohol, soap, and camphor. The selling price of this simple mixture worked out at nearly £5 per pint. In connection with cases of lead poisoning, mainly among children, 197 samples of urine were examined, and of these 31 were found to contain lead, generally less than l/5th milligram per 24-liour specimen.
