The number of live births in 1959 is exactly the same as in 1958 and the total births figure exceeds that of 1958 by only 1, However, the slight increase in the estimated population brings the crude birth rate for 1959 down to 16,48 but this, never- theless, is still above the average for the last 10 year3. There were 28 illegitimate live and still births and this figure compares favourably with the average of 28,4 over the last decade, HEATHS. The overall dea.th rate is above that of last year and in fact is slightly higher than the average for the 10 year period commencing 1950. Infant deaths during the year were again below the average for the area, and the rate compares exactly with that for the country as a whole, Tfhilst deaths from all forms of tuberculosis were well down, deaths](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b29094653_0025.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
