In order that the crude birth and death rates may be made comparable with those (i England and Wales it is necessary that a correction be made by the application of a facte supplied by the Registrar-General to compensate for differences in age and sex distribute in the county, as compared with the whole country. Contemplated schemes for water supplies, sewerage and sewage disposal and for tl extension and improvement of existing arrangements have been submitted by distri( authorities. The following proposals have been examined and reported upon: Battle Rural District. Parish of Ewhurst (Staplecross Village).. Parish of Iden Parish of Playden (Houghton Green) Parish of Rye Foreign (Bowlers Town).. Chailey Rural District. Parish of Ringmer. . Parish of Telscombe (Bannings Vale— Saltdean) Cuckfield Rural District. Parish of Clayton (Clayton Village) Parish of Hurstpierpoint . . Scheme of sewerage and sewage disposa] Water main extension. Scheme of sewerage and sewage disposa] Water main extension. Scheme of water supply. Parish of Slaugham (Warninglid Village) Hailsham Rural District. Parish of Herstmonceux (Trolliloes Area) Parish of Warbleton (Rushlake Green Area) The continuing need for national economy has again hmited progress and work ha proceeded only on a few of the more urgent schemes. Meanwhile, the costs of these essential services continue to rise, with the result that revise estimates on proposals which have been retarded by restrictions on capital expenditurej now show substantial increases and the completion of water supplies alone, to the fe\| remaining unpiped areas of the county, is likely to prove a slow and costly process. With the majority of the main centres of population sewered, provision for the smallf villages and more isolated communities will likewise be relatively expensive. Nevertheles: it is felt that every effort should be made to press forward with the most urgent case: particularly where undrained downland villages present a risk to the water resources.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b29186948_0010.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
