![Summary of Vital Statistics in Various Sub=Districts. Clifton.—Births: 30 males and 40 females, or at the rate of 30'3 per tliousaiid of the estimated ])opida- tion. Deaths: 25 males and 14 females, or at the rate of lf)‘0 })er thousand. Clifton shows a higher infant mortality than the other sub-districts, and amongst the deaths are numbered one from membranous croup (a disease very closely allied to diphtheria), and three from whooping cough. Six eases of scarlet fever, (jue of mem- branous croup, one of typhoid fever and one of puerperal fever have been notified to me during the year in this district. Fixby.—Births: 8 of males and 7 of females, or at rate of 31‘3 })er thousand. Deaths : 5 of males and 1 of a female, or at rate of 12'5 per thousand. The largest number of deaths in this part of the district has been at ages of 65 and upwards. One case of typhoid fever connected with bad drainage and an impure water supply was notified to mo. These insanitary conditions have been remedied. Greetland.—Births : 2 of males and 6 of females, or at the rate of 2TO per thousand. Deaths : 5 of males and 3 of females, (jr at tile rate of 2CG per thousand. Three eases of scarlet fever have occurred in the district during the year—all (d‘ them probably imported from adjacent districts.
