![The following particulars of the Church are extracted from t( The History and Antiquities of the County of Surrey,” by Maiming and Bray, vol. ii., p. 238, London, 1809:— ‘‘The Church is in the Deanry of Ewel, rated at 15 marcs in the Valor of 20 Edward I. In the return to Cromwell's Commissioners in 1658 it was valued at 70/. a year. The Park now surrounds it. It is covered with stucco, and consists of a Nave, at the end of which is the Chancel; and there is a small North Chancel fitted up as a seat for the Mansion-house and having a chimney. At the North-west corner is the belfrey, with one bell in it, to which Sir George Colebrooke built a round staircase on the outside. In the Chancel were lancet windows now stopped up. Sir James Colebrooke pulled down the Parsonage-house, and laid part of the glebe into a piece of water of 30 acres in the Park, but another house has not been provided. Land was given by Mr. Ladbroke in lieu of that so taken. In July 1763 Sir George Colebrooke obtained a faculty impowering him to take a part [#] of the Churchyard in exchange for a piece of ground [f] which he added thereto, and which was consecrated in September 1778. All the monuments were removed by Sir James Colebrooke on an alteration made in the interior of the Church; and the only Inscription now to be found is on a broken stone lying near the entrance of the Church, which was thrown into an obscure place out of the Church: . . . jacet Joanns . . ley 40 die Decembris 1619 . . jacet Johannes . . ey junior ar . . r et frater . . . . nnes Copley . . . script obi it * Area taken 1 rood and 26 perches.—Ed. t Area assigned 1 rood and 31 perches on the North side of the Churchyard, by Deed dated 24 December ^762.—Ed.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b24882136_0010.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
