    exploded ideas and false teaching in regard to the innocuous character of a gleet, many a man, in all walks of life, has married with the best intentions and infected his wife, with disastrous effects upon her health, her procreative capacity and the happiness of married life. The gono- cocci in a chronic case of gleet in the male become inert and inactive, but can be revivified by trans- mission to fresh tissues, which are supplied by the wife or a healthy woman. They acquire virulence anew on the mucous membranes of the partner, and can reinfect the male in a state of activity, causing an intense, purulent discharge, with burn- ing pain on passing water, to his great dismay and astonishment. Many a honeymoon has been disturbed in this manner with mutual recrimina- tions ; and many a marriage has been spoilt which would have turned out happily. I re- member a case in Gloucestershire, where the husband had an acute gonorrhoea at the end of ten days, and, on consulting the doctor, both parties were found to be in the same condition ; and as it was impossible to decide which had given it to the other, there was dissatisfaction on the part of both bride and bridegroom.
