![Of the 903 persons who attained the age of 65 and upwards, 427 (47.3;£) were males and 476 (52.7/Q were females. The figures for later ages were 75 years and upwards, males 255 (43.3/-0, females 334 (56.7/=;; and 85 years and upwards, males 74 (40.2/=), females 110 (59.6/a). Heart disease. Heart disease caused 449 deaths, fiving a rate of 4.9 per thousand population. This compared with 5.6 for 1963, 5.3 for 1962 and 5.5 for 1961. 353 (73.4*) of the deaths occurred at the age of 65 and upwards. Coronary thrombosis is included in the cause of death in 209 (46<o) of the cases, males 132, females 77. The age distribution of these deaths is shovn below. Cancer and other maligant conditions caused 241 deaths, giving a death rate of 2.6 per thousand population, the same as last year. 144 (60?o) occurred at the age of 65 and upwards, compared to 144 (605o) last year. 45 of these deaths were due to cancer of the lung, Y]% of the total cancer deaths, compared to 45 (19^) of total cancer deaths last year. Of the lung cancer deaths this year, 37 (34/-= of male cancer deaths) were males and 8 (6^ of female cancer deaths) were females.
