It ought to be chofe in good handfome pieces, of a colour between brown and red, having the tafte of vi¬ triol, and eafily diflolving in water; when broke, it fhould appear brightifh, and of the colour of copper ; but in defedt of it, they fometimes fubftitute calcanthum, white coppe° yas, calcined, and calamine.
