![(p. 432) via the Planina Alp., in 6 hrs.] — From Tolmino over the Hker- binja-Joch or the Schwarzenberg to Feistritz (guide 4 fl.), see p. 430; via Deutschrutli to Laak, see p. 429. 7OV2 M. Caporetto, Ger. Karfreit (1015'; Deutschwirth). To the right are the precipices of the Kern (see ahove); to the left rises the Matajur (5390'; easily ascended in 4 hrs.; interesting). The next places are Ternova, Serpenizza, and — 84 M. Flitsch(1470'; *Post; Huber), a poor village in a seques- tered hasin. On the W. rises the huge Mte. Kanin group. Ascents (guides; Jos. and Andr. Makriisch, and Andr. Sortsch of Flitsch, Andr. Komas, Joh. Sorlsch, and Anl. Tozbar of Trenta). The as- cent of the Prestrelenik (8220'; guide 5 fl.), via the Karnitza Alp in 71/2 hrs.. is fatiguing, but repaying; the descent may be made by the NeveaAlp to (6hi-s.) Raibl (seep. 443). — The Kanin (8470'; guide 6 fl.), via the Gos^ ditsch Alp, in 8V2-9 hrs., is also fatiguing (from the Kanin to the Pre- strelenik 3 hrs.). — The Bombon (or Veliki Vrli; 7250'), via the Gonciza Alp in 5 hrs. (guide 5 fl.), offers less difficulty. — From Flitsch to the FoiZew of the Trenta (passes to the Pischenza and Urala valleys), see p. Mi. Ifear Loog in the upper Trenta valley, 4V2 hrs. from Flitsch, is the Baum- bachhutte (1970'), erected by the German Alpine Club. The ascent of the Terglou (6 hrs.; guide 5 fl; p. 430) from this point, by the 'Krigy Path . via the rocky Skok and the Dolez-Sattel, is fit only for adepts with steady heads. The ascent of the Prisanig hence (83S0'; 41/2 h.; 4 fl;0, via the Kronauer Chalet, is easier than from the N. side (p. 432). — The llazor f8530'; 51/2 hrs.; vrith guide), ascended via the Kronauer Alp and the saddJf between the Prisanig and the Eazor, is difficult. - The f J«*c/<er (?rw7o«. (7710'- 6 hrs.; 3 fl.), ascended via the Zepotocco-Alp (4285') from the inner Trenta, is difficult: - The Jalouz (8710'; 6-7 hrs.; 7 fl.) ascended by the Trenta-Alp (4480'), is also a difficult peak and not without danger. — Anothe.- arduous ascent is that of the Kaniauz (Kanjavec, 8432'), accomplished via the Trebischnja-Alp in 6 hrs., or via the Dolez-Saltel m f/f5 h. (guide 4 fl.). Fine view. The descent may be made if preferred to the lerglou Lakes (p. 431). j * ti The road now quits the Isonzo valley, which ascends to the E. towards the Terglou (p. 430), and follows the course of the Koritenza towards the N., into a defile called the Flitscher Klausr (1745'), guarded by a new fort. Beyond this pass, near (D M. ) Vnterbreth, a view of the imposing Mangart (p. 443) is dis- closed; to the E. rises the abrupt Jalouz (8710'). The road as- cends in long windings past Mittelbreth (Inn) to Oberbreth grandly situated, passes the mouth of the Mangart Valley, mi a small fort, where a handsome monument commemorates the death ot n Capt. Hermann, who fell in a skirmish here in 1809, and reaches (4 M.) the highest point of the Predil (3810'; Baumgartner s Inn. to the right, unpretending).
