    ON THE T'reatment of the Dysentery. r~|T^ H E treatment of a difeafe is always JL precarious when its proximate caufe is not clearly afcertained : For this reafon, the Dyfentery is a difeafe, in which the treatment has been ambiguous and perplexed. The juftly diftinguifhed Cul- len is, we may fay, the only one who has reduced the treatment of this difeafe to a clear principle; of courfe it has been rendered more fatisfa&ory and decided. The proximate caufe, as we have ex- plained it, will, we expect, afiift further in illuftrating and fixing the principles of the treatment. And here we obferve, that the treatment hitherto found moft fuccefsful in the cure of the Dyfentery, throws additional fupport on the view we have given of the proximatS caufe. We
