It will be re- membered, however, that nearly all of the patients brought from the other hospitals were wards of the State; so that this class - has at all times constituted more than one half of the patients resident in the house. At the close of the period of these sta¬ tistics, September 30, 1870, the whole number resident was 408, of whom 218 were supported by the State, 66 by towns, and 124 by individuals. Occupation.
