Perfect preservation, fine patina. Hetght 3-51n. Greek, about 200 B.C. 1 HYGIENE. 130 A beautiful terra-cotta statuette, 7°21. high, representing Hygieia, goddess of Health, daughter of Asklepios, she is gracefully draped and holds a dish of fruit in her left hand. I 131 Anancient alabastron, or “ soap-bottle,’’ of Corinthian fabric, painted with two seated cats, the Greeks used oil instead of soap for washing, and their alabastra were made to be carried with a string-handle. Found at Corinth 1 : _ GY Another, smaller, and of the type which athletes carried, slung on their wrists, to baths and gymnasiums, painted ‘M4. . with cock and swan, birds sacred to Asklepios and Apollo (gods of Health and Light). Found at Corinth J Athens; it is of black-glazed terra-cotta, and fitted with HM EY. a nipple-shaped spout in front and a handle at one side, the top is covered in, but pierced with holes so that air can get to the milk, but no flies.
