CASE IV. Captain — had been troubled with a dis¬ charge from the urethra for many months. A stricture was found at five inches and a half, and another at six inches ; the latter was ex¬ tremely irritable, as was the whole of the canal. I applied the mercurial ointment, low¬ ered with some spermaceti ointment, which produced a slight sensation of warmth; in a few days this was not felt, and a moderate sized bougie passed through the stricture, without any pain.
