![7° wil not take pains to under ft and the Books aforefaid, are not fit to ^offici¬ ate as Surgeons at Sea and ltl the camp, nor to fupply the room of a learned Phyfitian m the Countiy or once fo much as to look upon a fick perfon in reference to his cure. Nor let him that knows not how to ufe them in due time and place fay that the Vertues of the medicaments are over boafted when he finds not the defined effert. Jnyce of Liquor Is, Scammony, Manna, of each two drams. With fyrup of Violets, make it into Troches. Vertues newly added. Thefe are fitted to purge water and grofs Phlegme together with choller. They expel wind* They cannot have any bad taft and may therefore fitly be given the Quantity of one fcruple to children to eat, that have great bellies, a dare troublec with wormes. They dofe may be to two fcruples or a dram in ruftick anc labouring bodies, in cafe of Worms, chollick- dropfies and oppreflion o: the Lungs by fiegm. They may be made into tables. They are a pretty invention in my opinion for chil¬ dren and nice perfons, in regard of the convenience of carrying about a man in journeying, in which cafe they are not fubjert to any mifear- riage or fpoiliug, as lyrups, Elertua- ries, Pills &c. arc. 2 'rochifci de Vi per a ad Theriacam. Colledg.] Take of the flef!) of Vi- pert, the s!\in, entrals, head, fat, and tail being taken away, boyled in water with Dill, and a little fait> eight ounces; white bread twice baked, grated andflf- ted, two ounces : make it into Troches, youT hands being annointed with Opo- balfamum, or Oyl of Nutmegs by tx- preffion, dry them upon a fieve tur¬ ned the bottom upwards in an open place, often turning them till they are wel dried, then put them in a glafl or flone pot glared, flopped clofe, they will keep ayeer, yet is it far better to make Treacle, hot long after you have made them. Culpeper They expel poyfon, and are excellent good, by a certain fym- oath'etical vertue, for fuch as are bit¬ ten by an Adder. Vertues newly added. They are good in the plague and all malignant difeafes, in all difeafes of the skin, as fcabs, maungynes,Le- prolie, tetters, morphewes. They quicken the fight, refrefh the colour- help cough,preferve from the dropite and help to cure the fame. They are good againft the Venereal murren, thicken the feed, and incite afleepy Husband to dig and manure his par- fley-bed; and an extravagant whore- haunter to drain his Marrow and Brain through his conduit pipe. I have heard it reported of a great La¬ dy over much given to Venereal em- bracements, that being anatomized after her death, her Brain was found confirmed, though fire wTas in the prime of her age. And if I forget not the ftory, (he was a great Lover of viper wine, which is of the fame faculties with the Trochisks afore- faid. I could name her, but being a brave woman and a perfon of worth otherwife, and wife fome time to a Gallant Gentleman, I fhal bury her name in filence as to this ftory. Trochifci de ^4gno Caflo.Vs.gc. 133. Latin, Or, Troches of Agnus Caftus. Colledg.] Take of the feeds of si gnus Caflus. Lettice, fed fofe flowers, Balauflines, of each a dram. Ivory, White timber, Bolt-armenick wajhed in Jfnotgrafl water, two drams. Plantane feeds four fcruples. Safjafras- two fcruples. With muffilage of quincefeeds extra&ed in water of water-lilly flowers, let them be made into Troches. Vertues newly added. They are good to flop the Gonor¬ rhea fimple or Virulent being feafo- nably aftminiftred.They abatethe flux of whites, and the courfes in women being over flowing. They ftay bleed¬ ings at the Nofe, fpittings.of blood, and coughs. They are good for thofc who (abhorring the infolent ufurpa-. tion and domineering of Wives cau- fed for want of the fitting & juft Re¬ medy of Divorce & allowance of Po- ligamy ; and countenanced by the unmanly condefcenfion and dotage of the Generality of Husbands in this Nation and Age wherein we live) rer folve to enjoy the happy freedom of a fingle life, without the vexation of carnal defires, and danger of fcandal which might thence arife ; For they Quench and dry up the feed, and a- bate the acrimony thereof, and ftop its turgency and motion, and confe- quently do highly favour chaftity. The dofe is one fcruple, half a dram or two fcruples, or a dram if need be in lettuce water, morning and even¬ ing, or in confer ve of red rofes. TROCHES. left: out in this new Edition. Trochifei silexiterif. Renod.cus. Colledg.] Take of the roots of Gen¬ tian. Tormentil, Orris Florentine, Zedoary, of each two drams. Cinnamon, Cloves, Mace, of each half a dram. Angelica foots three drams. Coriander feeds prepared, fofes, of each one dram. Dryed Citron pills two drams. Beat them al into ponder, and with jayce of Liquoris foftned in Hippocras, fix ounces, make them into foft pafl, which yon may form into either Troches or fmal fowls, which you pleafe. Culpeper.'] It preferves and ftreng- thens the heart exceedingly, helps faintings and failings of the vital fpi- rits,rqlifts poyfon and the peftilence: and is an excellent Medicine for fuch to carry about them whofe occafions are to travel in peftilential places and corrupt air, only taking a very final quantity now and then.
