![Culpeper. The cffetts are the fame With the Simple, only ’tis ftronger, and better compofed here than it was in the former Difpenfatory. Venues newly Added. It is good for afthmatical perfons being hneared upon the chert. It brings down the Haemorrhoids a- nointed upon the place, or in jetted in a clyrter. Mixed with vinegar and rue and bitter almonds, and dropt or fquirted into the ears with a Syringe, it helps deafnefs and takes away the preternatural noifes and tinklings of the ears. It cures ulc ers and flop- pages of the noftrils. Alio it is good againft an old Catarrhe, anointed u- pon the feanis of the head, the tem¬ ples, pulfes, and foies of the feet. Oleum Major once. Page 149. Latin Or, Oyl of Marjoram. Colledg.] Take of Marjoram four handfuls. Mother of time two handfuls, Leaves and berries of Myrtles one handful. Southernwood, Water mints, of each half an hand- full. It helps wearinefs and Difeafes of the Brain and Nerves, coming of cold ; it helps the dead palfie, the back ( viz. the region a- long the back bone ) being anointed with it; being fnufted up in the nofe, it helps Spafmus cynicus, which is a wrying the mouth ahde, it helps noife in the ears being dropped into them ; it provokes the terms, and helps the bitings of venemous hearts j it is a moft gallant Oyl to ftrengthen the body, the back being anointed with it strengthens the mufcles, they being chafed with it,- helps the head- ach, the forehead being rubbed with it. Opium finely beaten, Styrax calamitis dijfolved in a little Turpentine) of each half an ounce. Culpeper. It is probable the Au¬ thor l’tudied to invent an oyl ex- treamly cold, when he invented this. I am of opinion it may be ufed fafely no way but only to anoint the tem¬ ples and nofes of fuch as have a fren¬ zy. If by uling this oyntinent you fee they Beep too long, dip a fpunge in Vinegar, and hold to their nofes, it may t>e a means to awake them. It is fcarte fafe, yet if you let it alone, it cannot do you harm. Vertues newly added. This way invented by Nicolaus, the Author of the Requies or Beep¬ ing medicament formerly deferibed amongft the Elettuaries. It was invented to aflawge vehe¬ ment pains of the Head. It is alfo good for the tooth-ach, being anoin¬ ted upon the cheeks and jaws. For the Head-ach and Phrentick perfons that cannot fleep,itmuft be anointed upon the forehead and temples, and in the noftrils. Thofe that are not frentick and yet cannot Beep, muft have it anointed, upon their pulfes and the foies of their feet. MofchcUum. Page 149. Latin. Or, Musked Oyl. ftrangury, being anointed upon the. Set them all in the Sun, and after the tenth day boyl them to the confumption of the juyet) then picin Colledg. Tafe two Nutmegs, Musfone dram, Indian leaf or Mace, Spickriardj Cofius, Maffich, of each fix drams. Styrax calamitis, Cajjia Lignea, Mirrh, Saffron, Cinnamon, Cloves, . Brutfe them as you ought to do,mix them and let them boyl eafily, till the wine be confirmed, the Muskbeing mixed accor¬ ding to art after it is firained. Culpeper. It is exceeding good a- gainft all difeafes of cold, efpecially thofe of the ftomach, it helps dif¬ eafes of the fides, they being anoin¬ ted with it, the ftrangury, chollick, and vices of the Nerves, and af¬ flictions of the Reins. This is good againft all cold dil- eafes of the body, as pallies, trem¬ blings, numnefs, efpecially for cold difeafes of the Stomach, as pains, windinefs, indigeftion, want of ap¬ petite, being anointed upon the re¬ gion thereof It is good againft the Colledg.] Tafe of Spickpard three - ounces. / Marjoram trvo ounces.
