White wax jeven ounces, prankjncenfe in pouder ten drams. Oyl of Bytfes often wajhed in water two pound. •Maky it into an Oyntment. according to an. Vertues newly added. This Oyntment being mingled with an equal quantity of Diapom- pholigos is more effeftual to the In¬ tents aforefaid, and the befl way to ufe the fame, befidcs anointing the corners of the eyes in the day time,is to fpred a quantity upon two linnen cloaths and to lay them over the eyes at night when the Patient lyes down to deep. Forfoit cools the inmhned eyes and powerfully drives back the Humors which flow into them. In the morning let the patient wafh off the oyntment with white Rofe-water. fame manner be communicated to Hogs greafe, and fo made into an Oyntment. Tapfivalentia. Page 1*9. Latin and Tapfimel of the fame Author. Or, J Culpeper. It was invented to take away inflamations from wounds,and to keep.people from.fcratching of them when they are almofl well. Vertues newly added. It is of a very cooling nature and and drying. It is good for St. Au- thonies fire fo called. It is good a- gainft Head-ach proceeding from an Kot gaufe, being anointed upon the Forehead, Temples, Pulfes and foies of the Feet. Alfo it is good to pro¬ cure fle^p, anointed as aforefaid. This Medicament is called Valen- tia Scabiofie, that is to fay the effica¬ cy and activity of the herb fcabious lb called, becaufe it can powerfullly produce all the effe&s of that herb, as far as concerncs external applica¬ tion. It is excellent againft all fcabs. Itch and mangynefs. It helps the Lungs being fluffed with thick and flegmatick excrements being anoin¬ ted upon the region of the. Cheft. It is excellent againft peftilential fwel- lings and carbuncles, which it will cure in three or four daies fpace,wjth a little Camphir* mingled therewith it is good againft Morphews and - ~ - Freckles,-Tetters, Ringworms, and down maidens Couifes fmeared on white Filmcs that grow ovei Ve ruses newly added. Tapfivalentia is as it|uch as to lay the virtue and efficacy of the Herb Tapfus barbatus or true Muliein,andi Tapfimel is the Honey of mullein or Tapfus. Being applied to hard fwellings they eafe the pain and further the Cure. They flop a loofenefs, efpeci- allythe former being fmeared upon, the Belly, and and melted the quan¬ tity of an ounce or two in a conve¬ nient Ciyfter, alfo they eafe the bloody flux, applied as afot efaid^ffi peciaily the Tapfivalentia. Tapfimel is thought to bring Colledg.] Take of Tuny prepared, two ounces, Lapis CaLimlnaris often burnt and quenched an ounce, JVfalcp them being finely- pondered into an oyntment, wish a pound-and an half of oyntment offofes. Culpeper.’] It is a cooling, drying Oyntment, appropriated to tha eyes, dries up hot & fait humors that flow down thither, the eye-lids being a- nointed wi& it. the Eyes. It is good to anoint Ulcers proceeding from the venereal Dii- eafe. The Inventer or firft promulga¬ tor at leaft, of this and the two fol¬ lowing Medicaments was one Mr. John fitfrdame, an experienced Chi- rUrgebn in the famous old Town of Newarfe upon Trent, who flourifly ed in the year 1370 in the reign of Edward the third of that Name, King of England. Obferve that the Ver- tue, of any other excellent Herb, a^ Gomfrey, Ladies-mantle, Al-heal, St. Johns wort &'c. may after the the fols of their Feet. It is good for a cough of the Lungs, ( I mean the tapfimel fimple without the addition of burnt vitriol, Alluraorlnk ) be¬ ing licked with a ftickof Licorice., And the Tapfivalentia is good for the fame, being fmeared upon the Cheft. The tapfimel fimple as afore¬ faid is good for the falling ficknefs being frequently licked in a morning faffing, and in an evening about four a dock afternoon.
