This Syrupe is defignedto allay fiefhy lull by cooling, quenching and confuming the feed; and it is very good for fuch are defire to live chari¬ ty and enjoy the happynefs ofafin- gle life without vexation and fcan- dal. It is good for fuch widdowes or Maids as are vexed with the furor titerinus, or madnefs arifing from heat of the Womb and genital parts and acrimony of the feed. It is alfo food for fuch as are fubjeft to fpit Iood and bleed much at the Nofe, and for defluftions of thin fait and hot Rheums and the Whites. Culpeper.] It cools the Liver, and opens obftrudlions both of it and the Spleen, helps old Suriets, and fuch like Difeafesj Scabsj Itch* Lepro- fie, and what elfe proceed from the Liver over heated. Book. Culpeper.'] It is a fine cooling, opening, flippery fyrup, and chieny commendable for the cholick, flone, or gravel in the kiclnies or bladder. I mail only give, you a Caution or two concerning this fyrup, which for the forenamed effefrs, I hold to be excellent: 1. Be lure you boyl it enough, for if you boyl it never fo little too little, it will quickly be fowr. 2. For the cholick (which is nothing elfe but an infirmity in the Gut caljed Colon, and rhence ir takes its name) you had befl ufe it in cly- flers , but for gravel or the flone, drink it in convenient Medicines, or by it felf; if both of them affiicfi you ufe it both waies : I a flu re you, this Medicine wil five thofe that are fub- jeft to fuch difeafes, bothmony and mifery. Then boyl it away to one found eight ounces, let it, fettle : In four ounces of which whilfi it is warm, difolve by it felf Gum ammoniacum, firfi diffolved in white Wine Vinegar, two ounces. Peny royal, Calominth, Origanum, Bawm, Mrfmart, Dittany of Creet, \ Savin, Marjoram, Germander, St. Johns-wort, Camefitis, Fcathcrfew with the flows**. Centaury the lefi, Byte, Bettony, Buglofi, ofieach 4 handful. Boots of Fennel, Smallage, Parfly, Sfaragus, Bruficus. Saxifrage, Mlicampane, Cyfertts, Aladdir, Orris, Peony, of each an ounce* Juniper berries. Seeds of Lovage, Parfly, Smallage, Mnr.is, NigeUa, Carfobalfamum or cubtbs3 Cofius, Cafiia lignea, Cardamoms, Calamus aromaticus. Boots of Mfarabacca, Pellitory of Spain, Valerian, of each half an ounce. Being clenfed, cut, and brut fed, let them be infufed twenty four hours in four¬ teen pound of cleer water, and boy led till haflfbe confumed, being taken off. from the fire, and rubbed between your hands whilfi it is warm, firain it, and with Honey and Sugar, of each two pound, Jharp Vinegar four ounces. Boyl it to a Syrup, and perfume it with Cinnamon and ff iiky nard, of each three drams.
