Culpeper.'] It is a clenfing fyrup ap¬ propriated to the Breafl and Lungs . when you perceive them opprelfed by flegm, crudities, or Hoppings, your remedy is to take now and then a fpoonful of this fyrup ; it is taken alfo with good fueeels by fuch as are itchy, or fcabby, Vertues newly added. This fyrup is good for Coughs en¬ gining to a Confumption. It opens obftruftions of the Spleen and Hops an immoderate flux of the whites. An ounce may be taken in Colts foot water, or Scabious water. Colledg.] Takt four ounces, Pyffemary-flowers half an ounce. Time, Calaminth, Origanum, of each an ounce and an half, Sage, Betony, of each half an ounce. Seeds of Rue, Peony, Fennel, of each three drams. Spring water ten pound. Boyl it till half be confirmed, and with Honey, Sugar, of each two pound. Boyl it into a fyrup, which perfume with Cinnamon, Ginger, Qalamus fromaticus, of each two drams tied up in a rag. Colledg.] Take of Violet flowers flejh and picked, a pound. Clecr water made boyling hot, two pound. Shut them up clopt together into a new Gla-zed pot, a whol day, then prefl them hard out, and in two pound of the Liquor, diffolvc iVhite Sugar four pound and three ounces ; take away thefeum, andfo make it into a fyrup without boy- ling. Syrup of the Juyce of V iolets is made with its double weight of Sugar, like the former. Syrupus de fcilopendrio. Page 41 .Latin. Or, Syrup of Hartftongue. Vertues newly added. This fyrup is fitted to {Lengthen the Brain, Nerves and Joynts. It therefore helps Convulfions, Epilep- fies. Tremblings of the Hands, Head-aches and Joynt pains, pro¬ ceeding from cold caufes. It warms a cold ltomach and Matrix and helps Barrennefs in Women, arifing from the over plafhynefs and moonfh dif- pofition of the Feild of Nature. It may be given from half an ounce, to an ounce and half, or two ounces, in faee or Betony water in the mor¬ ning] and at four in the afternoon, andean hour before bed-time to wo¬ men difordered as aforefaid. Culpeper.] This latter fyrup is far more chargable than the former and in all reafon is better,, although I ne¬ ver knew it ufed ; they both of them cool and moifien, and that very gent¬ ly, they correct the fharpnefs of chol- ler, and give eafe in hot difeafes of the breaft,they quench thirft in acute Feavers, and refift the heat of the dif— eafe ; they comfort hot flomachs ex¬ ceedingly, cool the Liver and Heart, and refift putrifa&ion, peftilence,and Poyfon. It is fo harmlefs a fyrup, you dial hurt your Purfe by it fooner than your Body. Colledg.] Julep of Violets is made of the water of Violet flowers and fu- gar, lily Julep ofkkofes.
