In my own case, I have had no returns of the symptoms Previous to wearing the chain, the slightest atmospheric change was enough to cripple me But now I can expose myself with impunity to every kind of weather. I can fish, hunt, and wade all day through swamps without suffering, etc. [Extract from a letter of Dr. Moschzisker, of Baltimore, to Messrs. Chas. & Wm. Caspari in Baltimore, Mel.] I have used the large Chain Battery, in combination with some slight medical treatment, in several cases of Deafness (particularly in Nervous Deafness of several years standing), and also in Weak Eyes, which enables me to recommend them to the public. Mr. J. Steinert : Augusta, Me., October 31,1853. Sir—Yours of the 18th was duly received with labels for your fluid. I have but six of your chains on hand, and if you should send me some of them, please to send me a lot of your circulars. The Chains have given perfect satisfaction, where I have sold them. Respectfully, yours, WILLIAM BLACK. : Pittsfield, Mass., Nov. 2,1853. We find more ready sales for the thirty links than for eighteen, and have no doubt that a large busi- ness can be done with them. In no case do they fail to please, and in some cases we know of, they are worn with decided beneficial results, etc. ALLEN & Bro. ENGLAND, 48 Russell Square, 29th August, 1851. The ingenious modification of Volta's Pile, invented by Dr. Pulvermacher, was placed in my hands several months ago, and 1 have had the opportunity of testing its value. This apparatus is capable of producing all the physiological effects of the well known Galvanic Battery, each link of the chain corresponding to a ceil of the latter very cumbrous, and (for medical purposes'), inconvenient machine. It is easily excited, and its power is very persistent. With careful management it is not likely to get out of order. We have in this ingenious invention that which has long been a desideratum, viz.—An apparatus of the smallest possible bulk capable of evolving a continuous or uninterrupted current of Electricity of moderate tension, and always in one direction, without the expense, bulk, and great inconvenience of the Craikshank Trough or other Cell arrangements. I can hardly recommend Dr. Pulvermacher's invention too strongly to the notice of my medical brethren. * G-OLDING- BIRD, A.M., M.D., F.R.S., FellotV of the Royal College of Physicians to, and Lecturer on Therapeutics, at Guy's Hospital. Finsbury Square, Sept. 19th, 1851. I have great pleasure in stating, that I consider Pulvermacher's Patent Portable Hydro-Electric Chain Batteries to be a very convenient and effective form of a Voltaic Apparatus for medical pur- poses. JONATH. PEREIRA, M.D Fellow R.C.P., Physician to London Hospital. [From the Physician of her highness the Duchess of Norfolk.] The Duchess of Norfolk (having received several Chains before) wishes Mr. Meinig to send one of the strongest Hydro-Electric Chains, and an Interrupting Cylinder, to Lady G. S. S.,P., Romsey, Hants ; and she wishes to have herself another small one, directed to Arundel Castle, Sussex.
