Description

Hypothesis Kabbalae recentioris, prout hinc inde legitur dispersa in prima parte Apparatus in Librum Zohar. This MS. is made up of translated extracts, copied from Knorr von Rosenroth's 'Kabbala denudata', Vol. I, 1677. In this MS. the title appears as 'Etz Chajim', and is found both in the text and at the end 'Etz Chajim ffinis'. The form of name given here is that used in the B.M. Catalogue.

1 volume 96 pp. 4to. 21 × 15 cm., 181/2 × 141/2 cm. Modern vellum binding. Small hole in the first leaf: lower margins of pp. 1-48 frayed. Pp. 49-end are on paper of slightly smaller format.

Purchased 1931.

Biographical note

The original author appears to have been Hayyim ben Joseph Vital [1553-1620], and these are excerpts from his 'Sefer Otzerot Hayyim,' which itself was a section of his collected 'Sefer Etz ha-hayyim' [cf. 'Jewish Encyclopaedia' s.v. 'VITAL'].
