![LUNG CANCER: 19 deaths occurred from lung cancer, a reduction of 3 on the previous year, but maintaining our average annual deaths at 19*4 over the past five years Wiich compares unfavourably vdth the average of 13.2 over the previous five. Of the 19 deaths, 10 occurred under the age of 65. • ■ National lung cancer deaths rose by 620 to 27,019 with the rise in female deaths proportionately at a much higher rate than the males, v\here the rate of increase seems to be flattening out a little. It’is perhiaps too early to assess the significance' of this trend. Smoking remains the' principal cause and it is wrth^iiile repeating vdiat vjas said by Dr. Robert Logan, Director of the Medical Care Research Unit, University of ^lanchester at the Royal Society of Health Congress at Eastbourne in April I967'- “The working man's personal air pollution from cigarette smoldlng is the common and daninant factor in this self destruction, from coronary catastrophy, lung cancel and bronchitis, at least, GENERAL PflOVISIONS OF HEALTH SERVICES THE AREA: 1, Laboratory facilities.
