    TO THE MYOR, ALDERiEN im COUNCILLCES OF THE BOROUGH OF CHRISTCHURCH. I submit for your information and consideration my twentieth Annual Report on the health and sanitary circumstances of your Borough. As an integral part of this Report there follov/s the Report of the Chief Public Health Inspector on those sections of the vrork of the Health Department vdth v\iiich he is specially concerned, NATURAL AI\^D SOCIAL CONDITIONS; The Borough of ClTristchurch lies in the south west corner of Hampshire between the County Borough of Bournemouth and the Nev; Forest. The rivers Avon and Stour join belav^r the ancient Priory Church and flov7 into a vast land locked tidal basin, Christchurch Harbour, beloved of yachtsmen and naturalists. The ancient town shows slriarp contrasts between its old houses and the nuiiierous post war housing estates, both private and municipal, between its light industries and its large modern factories. Development lias been rapid in the post war years vath steady rises in population, amounting to a 77p increase since the end of the v/ar, very largely by ininigration. Further rises in population will result from the development of the former airfield. There is a wide variety of industry in and around the area.
