And being weakned lb much by their repeated Experiments ; upon the firffc Return of his Fever, Nature, not being able to bear any more Attacks , furrender’d up his Life as a Sacrifice to this fever e Try ah It is reafonable to fuppofe, that this Nervofe Malignant Fever, which’ was fo violent and deftrudtive to this Gentleman, was rais’d to that deadly height, by the corrcfive Matter they had forc’d into his Blood by Inoculation. The late Ingenious Mr. Addifon has ob- ferved, that the Fear of Death often proves Mortal, and fees People on Methods to fave their Lives, which infallibly deftroy them. And this may be applied to thole who enter upon this fevere Method to avoid an imagina¬ ry Danger, and throw themfelves into the Arms of Death, by endeavouring to efcape it. This Practice (from their own Accounts) is we fee, attended with dangerous Confequen- ces, as well as uncertain EfFedts,* and the at¬ tempting to bring upon our felves a Difeafe of the mod loathfome kind, is as great an AfFront as can be ofFered to the Dignity of our Natures.
