Folder [?of exhibition materials] comprising transparencies, diagrams and tables, dating from the early 1950s, with a label which reads:

'A Structure for DNA.  DNA is an essential part of the chromosomes, which carry the hereditary factors of living cells.  The proposed structure [which is so far unproved] consists of two very long chains wound round each other, and held together by groups of atoms [the bases] which fit closely.
Each chain is thus complementary to the other in shape.  This suggests a possible mechanism for the exact duplication of the DNA molecule in the living cell.'

The folder is accompanied by a compliment slip and postage label (dated May 1980) from the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge.
