Whatever is the Origin of this Difeafb the Patient has fometimes many fad Contempla¬ tions, to know whether the Stone or the Gout, is tnoft fevere j and fometimes the Stone, hindring the Paflage of the Water into the Bladder thro3 the Urinary Paflages, kills him without waiting on the flow Gouty Execution. To all thefe Afflictions is Jikewifo added , that during the Fit, the Patient3? Mind is, as it were, infected with the Contagion, and fo far Puffers with the Body, that it is difficult to know” which of them is moft afflicted. For every Pit may as properly be call’d a Fit of Anger, as of the Gout. For the Mind and Reaibn are lb extremely enervated by the infirm Body, that they are dilor- der’d by the Jeaft Motion of the Affections, fo that he is as troublefome to others as to himfelf: He is moreover as obnoxious to the reft of the Pafiions, viz. to Fear, Care, and other of the lame kind, by which he is alfo vexed, till the Difeafo going off, the Mind alfo has recover’d its former Tranquillity ; And after this manner the Fits are more and more protracted, as the Intermillions grow {Porter, till at length, (the Bowels being fo hurt by hatching and embracing the Peccant Mat¬ ter, that the Organs of Secretion can no more perform their Duty) the Blood Huffed with Dregs, Stagnates, and the Patient Dies. This leads me to fhew in the iecond Place, that all thofe who are afflicted with the Gout^ would very gladly be rid of it ; but before I do that, it will be neceffary to fay fomething as to the va¬ rious Caules of the Gout, in enumerating of which, it will further appear, what little reaibn People have to](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b30546461_0030.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
