![The work of Guilelmus Sedacerius is described by Thorndike in his ‘ History of Magic and Experimental Science’, Vol. Ill, pp. 628-632, and by Sarton in his ‘Introduction to the History of Science’, Vol. Ill, Part 2, pp. 1574, 1575, and, as in our MS., there are only two books of the alleged ‘ Quadripartita’, and these in our MS. appear to be in an abbreviated form. A closer examination of this MS. as a whole, shows a very near resemblance between the work of Alfarabi and that of Sedacerius. In both we find the eight precepts for the successful performance of the ‘Great Work’, and the actual matter of the texts is somewhat similar. In our MS. the ‘Prohemium’ to the work of Sedacerius is quite different from that found in other texts [cf. MS. 563 Mogliettis (i)], and as described by Thorn dike, the last three chapters on man, the tortoise, and the cock, are also not included. Purchased at Sotheby’s, 5/6/1929, Lot 544.
