![Outside the first leaf is a title in alternate red and black; ‘Indictiones / ffesta mobilia / Tabula planetarum / Homo venarum / Tabula lune’. The folds show that this MS.—a folio sheet 25J,- x 18 cm. was originally intended to be kept in a rectangular container, first doubled over forming two 4to. leaves, and then folded twice forming an oblong of about 13 x 4I cm. The title as given above would then appear uppermost. This very rare type of MS., seen also in Nos. 40-41, is the subject of an article by C. H. Talbot, ‘A Mediaeval Physician’s Vade Mecum’, Journal of the History of Medicine, 1961, Vol. XVI, pp. 213-233. Particulars of acquisition not known, but probably purchased c. 1900. The dates of the eclipses are from 1461-1481, and the outside of the cover is dated 1463 by an early hand. There are also small drawings of the eclipses in red and blue. The original folio-size sheets have been folded double, and then in three, and the vellum cover added to fit the smaller format. At the top of the cover is a vellum tag so that the MS. could be suspended by a cord from a girdle. Purchased at Sotheby’s 31/7/1923, Lot 5o8 A .
