    mic, 6961 individuals were inmates of the hospital, or 2320 in each year; and during 1841, 1842, and 1843, 7325 were treat- ed, or 2441 annually ; and this, notwithstanding it is generally admitted that the hospital accommodation for patients affected with fever is insufficient for their reception, during its epidemic prevalence, and consequently the treatment of a very large num- ber of them at their own abodes devolves on the district surgeons.
