    Specification. Lancaster <$■ Smith’s Smoke-consuming Apparatus. furnaces by means of pipes. Each jet of hydrogen being provided with a supply of atmospheric air, the gas on being ignited burns intensely, and not only consumes more effectually than heretofore the smoke from the furnace fire, however dense, but at the same time the heat is greater, and more generally diffused in the flues of the furnace than heretofore, thereby dis- 5 pensing with the necessity for an intense heat in the furnace, and consequently effecting great economy in fuel.
