Olei Lavandulae Liquoris Ammoniae Fortioris Misce. 71. Liebig's original formula for essence of meat:— Mix one pound fresh minced lean beef with one pint of distilled water, to which two to four drops of hydrochloric acid and fifty to ninety grains of common salt have been added. After standing in the cold for one hour, strain through a hair sieve without pressure, and re-strain until the filtrate be clear, adding sufficient water on the sieve to obtain one pint of essence. Listerine * contains the essential principles of thyme, euca- lyptus, baptisia, gaultheria, and mentha arvensis. Each fluid drachm also contains two grains of benzo-boracic acid. Listerine is a useful and pleasant antiseptic.
