The patient was much debilitated with paleness and anaemia; had passed much 'Klood at stool with much tenesmus; stated also that he had about 6 attacks of intermittent fever, two of which occurred within the 24 hours prior to admission, but statements were not very clear ; patient was treated for the dysentery, which became chronic, and he had no return of fever until the morning of the 29th, when he had slight chills at 9 o'clock. On the previous day patient had begun to take the following medicines. ^> Infus. gentiancB §ij.; Tinct. gentian. 5ii. M. ter in dies. 27th, noon. Chilness this morning passed off without the acces- sion of fever. Co7it. med. 2%th. Patient has violent rigor this morning at half past 7 a.m. ^ Sol. acet. morph. gtt. xv.; Spr. ceth. nitros. 5i. M. stat. svm.; and after fever, 6 grains of sulphate of bebeerine every hour till 6 doses. 29th. Patient is getting a rigor this morning again ; took 36 grains bebeerine after fever yesterday ; no deafuess and no tinnitus ; a little vertigo complained of, more likely from the anaemia than from the medicine; bowels are still i-elaxed; 5 stools last night, bilious, fecu- lent, yeasty, without blood, or mucus, and without tenesmus; com- plains of hunger. ^ Sol. acet. morph. gtt. xv. ; Spir. ceth. nitros. 5i.; stat. sum. ; and after fever, repet. sulph. bebeer. ut antea. ^Oth. Another attack of ague this morning; rigors occurred at 6 A. M., and patient is now (half past 7 A. m.) in the hot stage; twice purged; stools thin, yellow, bilious; much thirst; loss of appetite; no pain in abdomen; and no enlargement of spleen felt. ]^ Repet. acet. morph. ut antea; and after fever, two ounces of solution of quinine every hour till 6 doses. 1st May. Cinchonism ; deafness; tinnitus aurium; vertigo; quite free from fever; skin cool; tongue clean; pulse 96; was six times purged during night of scanty thin bilious stools; feels hungry. Omit. med. Up to date patient has had no return of fever; he still remains in hospital with anaemia and relaxation of bowels, the sequelae of his long untreated dysentery. IX. Case of tertian ague becoming quotidian under the use of bebeerine, and cured by quinine. — Chavereemoot, a Coolie, aged 25, 3 months in colony, was admitted on 15th April, complaining of fever and general indisposition.
