![Vesp. Fever ceased about i 1 o'clock a. m., and patient began to take the bebeerine. Fever, however, returned ut 2 o'clock p. ii., and the medicine was discontinued ; he had taken three doses. He was then prescribed the anodyne draught as before. At evening visit patient was found almost moribund; pulseless with cold extremities, and covered with cold perspirations; anxious and pinched expression of countenance, with lividity of face and hands. Some brandy was administered, but he could swallow only a very little, and four ounces were given in form of clyster. Sinapisms were applied to the head and thighs, but with no effect, and he died at half-past eight p.m. {For post mortem appearances see appendix.) XI. Case of quotidian ague cured by bebeerine.—Josepha, aged 26, a Portuguese, 3 months in colony, once in hospital before with affection of the heart, and general dropsy and anaemia; re-admitted on the morning of the 23d April with intermittent fever, says of 4 days' duration. She states that rigors commence about 10 o'clock A. M.; and the fever terminates about midnight with profuse perspi- rations. Abdomen is tumid ; no pain on pressure, and no enlargement of any viscus felt; skin is hot; pulse is very rapid; tongue furred, moist; no appetite; much thirst: patient also complains of a little cough; no dulness on percussion, and no abnormal sounds of respira- tion. To have two ounces of antimonial saline solution every hour till purging. 23c?. Vomited after the medicine; ejections greenish yellow, with a viscid sediment, in which are two worms {Ascaris lumbricoides') ; was freely purged; stools thin, copious, ochrey in appearance; 10 o'clock A.M. patient has got a rigor. ]^ Sol. acet. morph gtts. xv.; Aquce. acet. amnion. |ss.; stat. sum.; and after fever, 6 grains of sulphate of bebeerine every hour to 6 doses. 2Ath. Has taken 36 grains of bebeerine, and complains of a little deafness; no febrile symptom. Noon, no return of fever to-day; deafness gone. Patient had no return of fever; she convalesced slowly up to the 5th May, when she was discharged. XII.
