    SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS SSS SSIS, 7 DOMESTIC 3 o + 9 DEMS There are qualities possessed by the more popular household pets which endear them to the hearts of their owners, and on this account alone they should be treated with all the care and love it is possible to bestow upon them. It is safe to say that the dog is the most popular pet for the home. The almost human intelligence possessed by this animal makes it a wonderful pal for both grown-ups and children ; a friendship which is usually only severed by the death of the animal. ~ The main: points to remember in the care of the dog are correct feeding, cleanliness, and adcquate exercise. The household dog should, in the case of smaller animals, be given a bed indoors, a basket or box large enough for the animal to move about in, and lined with clean straw or clean rags. The bed should be changed frequently in the case of straw, or, if rags are used, washed and disinfected. It is policy to disinfect the bed now and again w th Sherley’s Insect Powder, thus ensuring freedom from vermin. Regarding ailments, the best plan is to keep-a copy of Sherley’s Dog Book ‘n the home, and:at the first sign of the dog being out of condition, treat it according to the symptoms, with the particular medicine expressly made for the purpose. Everi if well, it is advisable to give a course of Tonic and Condition Powders occasionally to keep the system in perfect order. Distemper usually attacks dogs and cats while in the puppy. or kitten stage, and at the first sign of running nose and eyes and a high temperature, place the animal in a warm place and give a course of Lintox, the wonderful Distemper Preventive and Tonic. The cat does not seem to be so domesticated as the dog, but makes a great pet. Many people prefer the cat to the deg, so it seems to be merely a matter of choice. A cat will keep itself clean by licking its paws and washing itself, but. it can be assisted in the process by smearing the paws with alittle butter.
