No text description is available for this image![PROMETHEUS these sets of packets are distributed to the offspring according to a simple plan. The laws of heredity are in the main simply the rules of distribution of the packets. One parent gives to any particular offspring one packet only of each of its pairs. The other parent supplies the corresponding second packet of the pair, so that the offspring has again the full complement of pairs. The first of the rules of distribution discovered was the so-called Mendelian Law ; it is the rule according to which the two packets belonging to the same pair are distributed. But when we take into consideration the inter¬ relations of packets belonging to different pairs, a whole set of rules is discovered covering the distribution of all the packets.
