In essence all these laws are simple ; any set of beads or buttons can readily be put through the same simple opera¬ tions, and then they yield the same rules that we call the laws of heredity. The only way to grasp these laws is to arrange a set of objects in the way the genes are arranged and to put them through the simple movements followed by the genes ; attempts to understand them in any other way are futile. The movements of the genes are at least as important to man as the movements of the planets ; in time every school will possess a mechanical model that shows them.
