If the comparison is of ourselves with the Bushmen of South Africa, possibly the differences are mainly due to heredity. If the comparison is between the diverse races of Europe, or between the individual citizens of the United States, the answer is to be obtained only from a much greater amount of precise study, with critical statistical treatment, than has yet been made ; and there is reason to think that it would signify Httle when reached, since it would be merely an average of a very great number of individual comparisons, many falling to one alternative, many to the other.
