The disappearance into the melting pot of the rare and excellent combina¬ tions has long been a ground for criticism of the way the universe is run. The author of Ecclesiastes hated aU the labour that he had taken under the sun because he should leave it to the man that should come after him, and who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a fool ; yet he shall have rule over all my labour wherein I have shown myself wise under the sun.
