One large fpoonful, or-two upon an emergency, may be given for a dofe, once in fix or eight hours, or night and morning as the cafe requires, mixed in half a pint of marlhmallow drink, if you can procure it, if not, barley water. But obferve, if the pain is vio¬ lent, you will do right firft to give the purging apozem to pro¬ mote ftools, and let them drink plentifully of thin water gruel, which will cleanfe the bowels and urinary paflages, and greatly affift the intention of this mixture* Remember the body {hould always be kept open; and thofe who are fubjed to thefe com¬ plaints, Ihould accuftom themfelves to drink very plentifully of fmall liquors at all times *, which will often of themfelves per- a perfed cure. i V* ytf ELIXIR of VITRIOL. /t. * J / j « ' * * *■ JP J This is efteemed, good to ftrengthen the ftomach and bowels, to create an appetite, and brace up the folids. It may be given in a little water, or wine and water ; but where the patient can be brought to take it, a cup of chamomile tea is preferable to any other liquid whatever. The proper times for taking it are in a morning falling, an hour before dinner, and two hours after dinner.
