In the compilation of his work, the author has freely availed himself of the researches of all those who have thrown any light on the pathology and diagnosis of diseases, as well as of those who have contributed to improve the methods of investigating them ; with this view he has constantly consulted the works of Laennec, Andral, Lallemand, Serres, Louis, Broussais, Rostan, Bertin, &c. &c, and also the treatises of Chomel, Double and Landre- Beauvais,on semiology and general pathology. From Professor Recamier, he has borrowed his classification of constitutions, and also his method of examining patients, and has occa- sionally introduced some practical remarks, made in his Clinical Lectures, for which he is anxious to make every acknowledgment. In this new and improved edition, the chapter on the examination of the abdominal viscera is considerably extended; the method of studying the diseases of the different tissues, as well as the mode of making post mortem examinations, are pointed out; and some suggestions are offered on the subject of diagnosis.
