    No. 67. Sir E. Malet to Earl Granville.—(Received August 21.) My Lord, Cairo, August 7, 1883. I HAVE the honour to inclose copy of a Report from Dr. Chaffey Bey and Dr. Eerrari on the outbreak of cholera at Damietta. These gentlemen, although believing that the epidemics at Mecca in 1878, 1881, and 1882 were imported, and although they appear to consider the disease to be contagious, in both of which opinions they are at variance with English medical authorities, nevertheless declare that they cannot pronounce in favour of the theory that cholera was imported into Damietta; and they have taken some pains to show that the conditions which are known to create the same epidemic “ on the banks and in the Delta of the Ganges are to be found this year on the banks and in the Delta of the Nile.” I have, &c.
