Barham, and a Letter in Verse from _ Barham to ‘his Son at School, also his Autograph Manuscript of an incomplete Bailad (unpublished) of An Old Woman of Newbury, together with Proof Impressions of various Illustra- tions to the Legends, Portraits of Barham and his daughter, Lady Bond, ete. the whole hinged on thick boards with sunk mounts, brown morocco, gilt line panels on back and sides, inside tine panels, g.e. by Riviere Solio stanzas of six lines, commencing: I find, Mister Dick, That you’ve played me a trick, For which you deserve a reproof, Not to say a reproach— You got out of the coach, And settled yourself on the Roof. And ends: Write as soci as you can, That’s a good little Man, And direct your epistle to me, Meanwhile I remain Till I see you again, Your affectionate Sire—R. H. B. The letter is addressed : R. H. D. Barham, Tonbridge, Kent, Who'll come back as great a goose As he went. Vhe letter from Thackeray, written whilst on his way to Ireland (14 pp. 4to, with a pen sketch heading, showing himself and four monks ip a small boat), dated Opposite Liverpool, July \st, 1842, desiring Mr. Barham to look out for contributions to Bentley, with Mr. Church’s name, and place same: Under the Editor’s eye? to stand or fall, of course, as their merit. warrant. In a postseript he adds: It is a curious fact that both Boz and Titmarsh reached Liverpool the same day. but the Journals have not taken notice of the arrival of the latter.
