Of the above deaths. ‘24 occurred from diarrha'a, 28 fi’oni pi’cmature birth, 1(5 Irmn marasmus, IG from con- vulsions, Id from mcash's. 10 from atcdcctasis oi’imjierfect ai'ration of lungs, and dl from bronchitis and jmeunionia, besides case's recorded of gastritis and dysjiepsia due to had feeding. Some of the.se deaths have been brought about by unavoidable factors, such as the excessive summer heat of last yc'ar, the measles I'pidi'inic. and thenatui’al j)revalence| of bronchitis and ]>neunionia in this disti’ict, but it can hip safely a.s.scrtcd that a gmed many of them would We avoided were it nol foi' citln'r parental ignorance or eai'V lessness as regards rhe feeding and clothing of infants.
