![Deaths. Deaths. The number of deaths in the Administrative County amounted to 8/238, the number in the urban districts being 5,867, and in the rural districts 2,371. In the following table comparative rates for seven quin¬ quennial periods and for the past year are given, together with corresponding figures for the country as a whole, and for large and small towns throughout England :— Death-Rate per 1,000 of Population. 5 yrs. 5 yrs. 5 yrs. 5 yrs. 5 yrs. o yrs. 5 yrs. In the following Table the chief causes of death are set out, and, comparing this with, a similar one given in last year’s report, it will be seen that in 1924 the number of deaths from zymotic diseases was roughly half that sustained in 1S23, when several large outbreaks of whooping cough were responsible for the comparative large number of deaths from zymotic diseases. This year there has been an increase in the deaths recorded from influenza, there being 427 as against 166 the previous year. Tuberculosis is responsible for practically the same number of deaths this year, but fortunately cancer has not proved so fatal, there being 639 deaths as against 716. A slight increase in the number of deaths from pneumonia occurred in 1924 ; whilst congenital debility is responsible for 551 deaths as against 482 in the previous year.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b30131960_0007.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
